Snowshoe Mountain | Forever Wild

Here on the mountain, we know we've been blessed with one of the East's most amazing natural resources.
People from across the globe are drawn to our breathtaking scenery and the adventurous spirit of the Mountain. Our success depends a great deal on Mother Nature herself, so our passions, goals, and bottom line are all bound together in the interest of preserving our environment.

Our Commitment —
In keeping with our theme and surroundings of Forever Wild, we constantly strive to maintain the health of the Mountain through an environmental program that meets or exceeds regulatory standards. As a team, we set and review company, divisional, and departmental goals and objectives through the guiding principles of pollution prevention and a minimized environmental footprint. Our commitment is to use less electricity and to continually become more environmentally conscious while providing the same high-level resort experience.
Here are a few steps we've taken:
It doesn’t sound like much, but with every lightbulb in the entire Village switched to high efficient LED bulbs, the resort saves 451,000 kwh.
Many full sized trucks in our fleet have been downsized to mini-trucks, which are more fuel-efficient and produce significantly less emissions.
We are proud to offer six vehicle charging stations at no cost to our guests. These charging stations aid in our continuing effort to keep Snowshoe and the surrounding area Forever Wild.

There are 2 Tesla Supercharging Stations located across from the Village Brigham Loop / the Seneca Hotel. And there are 2 universal charging stations located at both Silver Creek and Top of the World.
One of the largest investments in our green campaign was the purchase of 75 new state-of-the-art snow guns that use a fraction of the energy required of traditional snowmaking equipment. With our upgraded snow guns, you can enjoy a better-than-ever-before on snow experience while we reduce annual electricity usage by an estimated 5,000,000 kwh. That's enough juice to power 500 homes for an entire year!

Our Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP), the first ever completed in the state of West Virginia, is a partnership with the US Fish and Wildlife Services that helps protect the two endangered species found on our resort land – the West Virginia Northern Flying Squirrel and the threatened Cheat Mountain Salamander.

In 2008, Snowshoe Mountain was the recipient of the Silver Eagle Environmental Award for Excellence in Fish and Habitat Protection.
So far, we’ve invested more than $1 million in green initiatives.

In the spring of 2018, Snowshoe Mountain donated $35,000 towards Sharp's Knob Restoration Project.Through a partnership with the USDA Forest Service, Snowshoe and Monongahela National Forest have secured another $77,000 to help rehabilitate the 30-acre site, located off Mine Road in Slatyfork. The restoration process includes de-compacting the soils on the old mine site so that native trees can grow, red spruce and hardwood tree planting, non-native species removal and wetland creation.

want to be part of snowshoe's green initiatives?

Now's your chance! We've recently partnered with the National Forest Foundation to generate financial support for their Stewardship Fund. Every dollar donated by Snowshoe guests will be matched at 50% and the proceeds will exclusively support conservation projects in Monongahela National Forest, which borders the resort property.

POLLInATOR Garden
More than 80% of the world's flowering plants depend on pollinators like bees, butterflies, and other important species to reproduce. As their numbers continue to decline, the world's food supply becomes increasingly at risk. To put it plainly, there is no future for mankind without pollinators.

Here at Snowshoe, we are making our local pollinators a priority by establishing a "Bee City" where we have planted several acres of native wildflowers and taken steps to provide a habitat where they can thrive.
